Jakarta: Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has responded to reports of a raised security alert level in the capital following the deployment of tens of thousands of Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) personnel. Pramono said there has been no coordination regarding the decision to set that status.
"As governor, if there were ever a Level 1 alert, I should have been consulted," Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Thursday, November 5, 2026.
He also said government activities at the Jakarta provincial government are still running normally. There is no special situation pointing to a higher security status in the capital.
"As of today, there's nothing like that. Our meetings are going fine. So I haven't heard about it," Pramono said.
Earlier, 20,980 Indonesian Navy personnel were deployed to strengthen security in Jakarta. The deployment was based on Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander's Telegram Letter No. STR/96/2026, dated November 2, 2026.
The deployment is divided into four stages, involving personnel from Navy units both based in Jakarta and from other regions. Of the total, 2,100 personnel come from units already stationed in Jakarta.
Meanwhile, 5,740 personnel were brought in from other regions. The remaining 13,140 personnel are on standby at their respective bases, waiting for orders to move.
Head of the TNI Information Center Major General Muhammad Nas explained that the large-scale deployment is part of carrying out state duties and the military's readiness to respond to developing situations.
