Indonesia Condemns Israel’s Plans to Annex the West Bank

Jakarta: Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, together with the foreign ministers of seven other Muslim-majority countries, has strongly condemned Israel’s plans to annex the occupied West Bank.

Alongside Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, Indonesia denounced Israel’s decisions and illegal actions aimed at imposing Israeli sovereignty in violation of international law. These include expanding settlement activities and enforcing new legal and administrative realities in the occupied West Bank, accelerating efforts toward illegal annexation and the displacement of the Palestinian people.

“The ministers reaffirmed that Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories,” the statement said, as quoted from the Indonesian Foreign Ministry’s official X account on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

The ministers warned against Israel’s continued expansionist policies and illegal actions by the Israeli government in the occupied West Bank, which they said have fueled violence and instability in the region.

They also expressed their absolute rejection of these illegal measures, describing them as blatant violations of international law that undermine the two-state solution and constitute an assault on the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent and sovereign state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital. Such actions, they added, also undermine ongoing efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.

The ministers stressed that the illegal actions in the occupied West Bank are null and void and represent clear violations of United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, character, and status of the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.

They also cited the 2024 advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which stated that Israel’s policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as its continued presence there, are illegal, underscoring the need to end the occupation and annul the annexation of occupied Palestinian land.

The ministers renewed their call on the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities and to compel Israel to halt the dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank, as well as provocative statements by Israeli officials.

“The fulfillment of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and statehood, based on the two-state solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, remains the only path to achieving a just and comprehensive peace that ensures security and stability in the region,” the ministers emphasized.

Trump Rejects Annexation

Opposition to the move also came from United States President Donald Trump, according to a statement by White House officials.

The White House said a stable West Bank is essential to guaranteeing Israel’s security and is consistent with the administration’s objective of achieving peace in the region.

Meanwhile, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced new measures to expand Israel’s control over the West Bank.

These measures also make it easier for Israel to acquire land for new settlements, which are considered illegal under international law.
