Jakarta: The Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (KemenP2MI) has provided the latest information regarding the major fire that engulfed Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po, Hong Kong, on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 4:44 p.m. local time (HKT).
The fire killed 13 people and injured 15 others, including several Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were migrant workers. The Minister for Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, Mukhtarudin, expressed his deep condolences for this tragedy and emphasized that the Indonesian government will provide maximum protection to all Indonesian citizens/migrant workers affected.
"The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of P2MI and the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong, is moving quickly to ensure that the rights of migrant workers are met, both for survivors and the families of those who died," said Minister Mukhtarudin when contacted by reporters on Friday, November 28, 2025.
Condition of Affected Indonesian Citizens/Migrant Workers
Based on intensive coordination between the Ministry of P2MI, the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong, and Hong Kong authorities (HK Police, Fire Services Department, and Hospital Authority), six Indonesian citizens/migrant workers have been recorded as affected:
1. Novita, deceased, her body taken to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital.
2. Erawati, deceased at the scene.
3. Kholifah Saefudin, currently being treated at North District Hospital.
4. Erna Mayang Sari, survived, has been evacuated to the home of her employer's relatives in Shatin, Hong Kong.
5. Arik Sugiarti, survived, is in an emergency shelter operated by the Hong Kong Government.
6. Puspita, Selamat, is in the Hong Kong Government's emergency shelter.
Immediate Actions by the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong
The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Hong Kong has been closely coordinating with the Hong Kong Government to handle the victims by conducting on-site verification.
It has also provided full consular assistance to survivors and families of deceased victims, while committing to providing regular updates.
Ministry of P2MI's Actions
The Ministry of P2MI has and continues to implement a series of protective measures, including:
a. Validation and complete data collection of the victims' identities, documents, employers, and location of care.
b. Assistance for surviving migrant workers, including meeting basic needs, communicating with their families in Indonesia, and providing consular services.
c. Regarding the handling of the deceased victims' bodies, the Ministry of P2MI will immediately send a special migrant worker protection team to Hong Kong to handle official identification, documentation, and options for repatriation of the remains.
Official communication to the families will be delivered through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
d. Real-time reporting – The Ministry of P2MI will provide updates on the situation as new information becomes available.
"We ensure that no Mifran workers are neglected. Our team will work 24/7 until all protection processes are complete," Minister Mukhtarudin emphasized.
Latest Developments in the Fire Case
Hong Kong authorities have arrested three people, two directors and a consultant from a construction company, for alleged negligence that led to the numerous fatalities in the Wang Fuk Court fire.
The investigation is ongoing, including an investigation into alleged delays in the evacuation process and the use of flammable building materials such as polystyrene boards and other construction materials that allegedly did not meet safety standards.
Meanwhile, Indonesian volunteers and communities in Hong Kong have opened aid posts, distributed food, and provided assistance to affected Indonesian migrant workers.
The Ministry of P2MI continues to collect data and ensure the safety of Indonesian migrant workers, while coordinating with Hong Kong authorities to obtain official information regarding injured or affected residents.

Furthermore, based on checks by the Ministry of P2MI and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan through the SMILE system, the two deceased Indonesian migrant workers, Novita and Erawati, were not registered as BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participants in their verified passport data, names, and dates of birth.
The Indonesian government expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and continues to coordinate with the Hong Kong government to ensure the best possible care for all affected Indonesian citizens.
