Jakarta: Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that no Indonesian nationals (WNI) were among the victims of a 6.1-magnitude earthquake that struck Balikesir Province, Turkey, on Sunday night. The quake, which was centered in the city of Sindirgi, was felt in surrounding provinces, including Istanbul, Izmir, and Denizli.
According to the ministry, 185 Indonesians reside in Balikesir, while the total number of Indonesians across Turkey stands at 10,186.
Following the earthquake, the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara and the Consulate General in Istanbul immediately coordinated with the Indonesian community through the WNI Protection Task Force to monitor conditions on the ground.
“As of now, there have been no reports of Indonesian casualties from the earthquake,” the Foreign Ministry said in an official statement to the media on Monday, August 11th, 2025.
The embassy and consulate will continue to monitor developments. Indonesians in affected areas are advised to remain vigilant for possible aftershocks and to follow guidance from local authorities.

The quake in Balikesir has so far been reported to have killed at least one person and injured 29 others, while also damaging dozens of buildings and infrastructure.
