Jakarta: A lively atmosphere filled the British Embassy in Jakarta during Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day celebrations on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
The UK Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey, enthusiastically joined embassy staff in marking this historic occasion.
The celebration featured traditional Independence Day games full of laughter and competitive spirit, including tug-of-war, sarong relay races, flour relay races, and cracker-eating contests.
“The Independence Day games at the British Embassy were fantastic. I joined the tug-of-war — it was very challenging, but I won!” Ambassador Jermey said with excitement, speaking in Indonesian.
At the end of the event, Ambassador Jermey and all embassy staff raised their voices together in unison: “Dirgahayu Republik Indonesia! Bersama Kita Bisa!”
This moment of togetherness not only showcased the enthusiasm for Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day but also reflected the close relationship and ongoing partnership between Indonesia and the United Kingdom.
