New York: President Prabowo Subianto urged Israel to immediately recognize Palestinian independence as a key step towards achieving peace in the Middle East.
In his speech at the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Palestinian Question and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution at UN Headquarters in New York on Monday, September 22, 2025, Prabowo emphasized that only a two-state solution can end decades of violence.
"Indonesia once again reiterates its commitment to the two-state solution. Only a two-state solution will bring peace, because we must ensure the independence of the Palestinian state," Prabowo emphasized.
He said that recognizing Palestine is not only important for the Palestinian people, but also for Israel's future and regional stability.
In a statement that attracted attention, Prabowo stated that Indonesia is ready to take the historic step of recognizing Israel after it first recognizes Palestinian independence.
"After Israel recognizes the freedom and independence of Palestine, Indonesia will immediately recognize the state of Israel, and we will support Israel's security guarantees," he said.
Prabowo also praised countries that have taken the courage to recognize Palestine, such as France, Canada, Australia, and Portugal.
He emphasized that recognizing Palestine was a "step on the right side of history" and urged other countries to follow suit.
"History will not wait. We must recognize Palestine now," Prabowo said, adding that strengthening the fight and recognizing a Palestinian state is key to ending the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
In his speech, Prabowo also announced the imminent start of war in Gaza and urged the international community to end the humanitarian disaster that continues to claim thousands of lives, especially women and children.
