Jakarta: The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested around 475 workers in an immigration raid at a Hyundai battery plant in Georgia on September 4. Among those detained was CHT, an Indonesian citizen (WNI).

“CHT was one of three employees of PT HLI Green Power who were attending a meeting with Hyundai,” said the Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Judha Nugraha, in a short message to reporters on Sunday, September 7, 2025.

It was stated that CHT was on a one-month business trip to the U.S., carrying official documents including a passport, visa, and a letter of invitation from the company.

“The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Houston has communicated with the Folkston ICE Processing Center in Georgia, where CHT is being held. The Consulate has also been in touch with CHT’s colleagues and the Hyundai Mega Site Battery Plant,” Judha said.

As of now, ICE has not provided further details following the mass arrests. “The Consulate General in Houston will provide consular assistance for CHT,” Judha added.

The immigration raid is part of the Trump administration’s tough immigration policy. At the Hyundai battery plant raid, the majority of those arrested were workers from South Korea.
