Indonesia Plans to Revitalize 200 Museums and Palaces Nationwide

Jakarta: Culture Minister Fadli Zon announced plans to revitalize 200 museums and palaces across Indonesia, including the Museum of the Formulation of the Proclamation Text and the Proclamation Monument, as part of efforts to preserve the country’s national heritage.
 
The move follows a recent surge in interest in museums among Gen Z, reflected in the sale of more than 20,000 museum passports.
 
Fadli said that the government also planned to build several new museums to support cultural preservation efforts, including a film museum in Jakarta’s Kota Tua, a photography museum in Semarang, and a music museum in Bandung.
 
He noted, however, that the initiative would require a shared commitment from regional governments, adding that “many regions had misused their cultural budget, and paid little to no attention to cultural development.”
 
Beyond the revitalization and construction plans, Fadli said the ministry had designated over 600 cultural heritage sites and items nationwide, helping to protect Indonesia’s historical legacy.
