Jakarta: An Indonesian citizen (WNI) was allegedly shot by Timor Leste police officers during a land border dispute on Monday, August 25. The incident took place in Inbate village, North Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
The victim was identified as Paulus Oki, a resident of Inbate village.
“The Indonesian Embassy in Dili has brought the shooting victim to the hospital for treatment,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vahd Nabyl Achmad Mulachela said in a written statement to the media on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
He added that the Indonesian Ambassador in Dili had visited the scene and coordinated with local authorities regarding the incident.
In addition, Vahd said the Embassy had formally requested clarification from Timor Leste’s Foreign Ministry concerning all matters related to the shooting in the border area.
Meanwhile, North Central Timor Police Chief AKBP Eliana Papope said it was still unclear whether Oki was wounded by a bullet or another cause.
“We are waiting for the results. According to some residents, there were indeed individuals carrying long-barreled firearms,” she stated.
