KH Abdul Hakim Mahfud has been Elected as PBNU Chairman

Jombang: KH Abdul Hakim Mahfud -,commonly known as Gus Kikin,- has been elected as the General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) for the 2026–2031 term.

The selection process took place via a closed-door deliberation between the elected Rais Aam of PBNU, KH Miftachul Akhyar, and the Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi (AHWA) council.

KH Anwar Iskandar, an AHWA member for the 35th NU Congress, stated that the AHWA deliberation was held at Ndalem Kasepuhan (the residence of KH Abdul Wahab Hasbullah) in Tambakberas, Jombang, East Java, between 06:20 and 07:00 WIB.

A total of five names were proposed for the position of PBNU General Chairman before the AHWA reached a consensus on the single individual selected to lead the NU organization.

"After deliberating on the five nominated candidates, the Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi reached a consensus to select KH Abdul Hakim Mahfud as the General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board for the 2026–2031 term of service," said KH Anwar Iskandar while reading the official record regarding the PBNU General Chairman in Jombang, East Java, on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Before the AHWA deliberation, Gus Kikin dominated the nomination phase, securing 472 votes. The other four candidates received the following vote counts: KH Zulfa Mustofa (262 votes), KH Abdussalam Sochib (261 votes), KH Yahya Cholil Staquf (258 votes), and KH Abdul Ghofar Rozin (155 votes).

Immediately after being announced as the PBNU General Chairman, Gus Kikin signed the jamiyah contract. He pledged to lead the organization to the best of his ability.

Rais Aam of PBNU

Previously The Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi (AHWA) Council unanimously appointed KH Miftachul Akhyar as the Rais Aam of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) for the 2026–2031 term of service.

This appointment took place during the 35th NU Congress at the Multipurpose Hall of the Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Tambakberas, Jombang, East Java, on the night of Sunday, August 30, 2026.

"After holding a closed-door deliberation, the members of Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi unanimously decided to select Kiai Haji Miftachul Akhyar as the Rais Aam of the Executive Board for the 2026–2031 term," stated AHWA council member KH Anwar Iskandar while reading the official record of the AHWA meeting before the congress participants, as cited by the NU website on the night of Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Anwar revealed that the consensus-building process among the nine AHWA members proceeded solemnly, smoothly, and effectively over the course of one hour, from 21:00 to 22:00 WIB. The deliberation mechanism employed was grounded in the values of the Qur'an and the principles of Pancasila.

The official record of the appointment was agreed upon and signed in full by all the ulama who are members of AHWA: KH Nurul Huda Jazuli, TGK KH Nuruzzahri Yahya (Waled Nu), KH Baharuddin HS, KH Miftachul Akhyar, KH Afifuddin Muhajir, KH Anwar Iskandar, KH Abun Bunyamin, KH Anwar Manshur, and Prof. KH Said Aqil Siroj.
