Jakarta: The Government of the Republic of Indonesia expresses its deepest condolences following the death of one Indonesian peacekeeper and the injury of three others serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The Indonesian peacekeeper died after indirect artillery fire in the vicinity of the Indonesian UNIFIL contingent’s position near Adchit Al Qusayr on 29 March 2026, amid reported hostilities between the Israeli military and armed groups in southern Lebanon.

“Indonesia strongly condemns the incident and calls for a thorough and transparent investigation,” said Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement, Monday March 30, 2026.

“We are profoundly saddened by this loss. We pay our highest respect to the fallen peacekeeper for his dedication and service to international peace and security,” said the statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family, and we wish a full and swift recovery to the injured personnel. Indonesia is working with UNIFIL to ensure the prompt repatriation of the fallen and the best possible medical treatment for the injured,” added the statement.

The safety and security of UN peacekeepers must be fully respected at all times, in accordance with international law. Any harm to peacekeepers is unacceptable and undermines collective efforts to maintain peace and stability.

In the statement, Indonesia reiterates its condemnation of Israel's attacks in southern Lebanon and calls on all parties to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, cease attacks against civilian populations and infrastructure, and return to dialogue and diplomacy to prevent further escalation and advance peace.

Indonesia remains in close coordination with the United Nations and relevant authorities and will continue to closely monitor developments.
